JOB SUMMARY:
The Accounts Trainee may be someone with limited experience, preferably 2 years or more. His/her main responsibility is the initial preparation of client accounts and attending audits, where necessary with the assistance of a senior to reach the final stage, for Manager or Director, approval/signing off.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. The preparation of client accounts to part or final completion stage dependent on the complexity of the business. This includes completion of VAT returns and bank reconciliations.
2. To actively take on all administrative duties as required.
3. When the opportunity arises to deal effectively with clients within his/her range of expertise and to refer to their Senior/Manager before any advice is given.
4. To report promptly to their Senior/Manager/Director any concerns which may affect the firm’s client relationship e.g. money laundering, unethical business practice, complaints etc.
5. To respect client confidentiality and report any issues which may affect client relationships to their Senior/Manager.
6. Attending audits at clients premises in an assistant’s role.
Person Specification
1. Must be academically able to undertake professional studies or have part completed such.
2. Must be able to prepare routine accounts to final stage and assist with the preparation of more complex accounts after initial training.
3. Must be aware of the importance of client relationships and their own limitations when speaking to clients.
4. Must possess IT skills to operate in-house programs and prepare and develop spreadsheets as necessary.
5. Must be fully conversant with accounts preparation programs.
6. Must possess a basic knowledge of accounting standards and the accounting provisions of the Companies Act.
7. A self-starter who is capable of working on their own initiative.
