Warehouse / Yard & Sales Counter Assistant Job Reference: 500 Horncastle

Job Title: Warehouse / Yard & Sales Counter Assistant Job Reference: 500
Location: Horncastle
Job Type: Full time - 09:00 -17:30 Monday to Friday & Saturdays 08:00-12:00 on a rota basis.
Salary: Dependent on experience
Phillips Animal Health Ltd is a family run business established in Horncastle since 1973. We operate from one site on the Boston Road Industrial Estate in Horncastle. There are a number of aspects to our business but the main one relevant to this role is the supply of animal health products, consumables and equipment to livestock farmers in the East Midlands. We have a sales team visiting farms in the area, taking orders which are then delivered. Our core delivery area would be approx.. within a 60-mile radius of Horncastle with other goods being despatched by parcel and pallet carrier. We also have a busy sales counter/shop serving a local trade of drop in account holders and cash sales.
We have two existing staff tasked with managing our stock and trade counter/shop. The main responsibility of this third role is to look after goods in, the warehouse and yard and to assist in other areas of the business when necessary.
3 Main Aspects of Role Required Qualities
Warehouse/goods in - To take responsibility for unloading and checking in deliveries. To break down and pack away when necessary.
To maintain a “tidy” warehouse and yard.
Warehouse/goods out - To pick orders for delivery and to pack parcels/pallets when required.
FLT Licence – Counter Balance outside and Reach inside for the racking (only 1 aisle).
Methodical nature, attention to detail, IT literate (to an extent) to enter stock onto the system.
Sales Counter Assistant – To serve customers at our sales counter when required. Amicable personality, willingness & ability to learn product knowledge (in time).
Delivery Driver – relief driver during busy times and holiday cover. Deliveries onto farms and collections from local suppliers. 7.5t Curtain Sider and 3.5t panel van
Ability / Licence to drive up to 7.5t with Drivers CPC would be advantageous but not essential as training will be given
General points:
The successful applicant needs to be physically fit and willing to undertake a medical examination/questionnaire. The job is physically demanding with many of our products being in 20 / 25kg bags and buckets. Also irregular items such as gates and barriers. All of above will often need to be handballed.
Amicable nature – to work and become part of a small and established team - and deal with customers both here on site and when delivering.
Flexible – this really is a varied role. For the right person, the variety is what will make it interesting BUT it really does mean mucking in and helping out where necessary as is typical of us all here. There are times when we are all very busy and others when it will inevitably be quieter. During these times there is a need to be self-motivated to clean up the yard, reorganise a section of the warehouse etc.
Attention to detail with a methodical/logical approach. This is key as the role is an important part of us maintaining our stock records correctly – making sure deliveries in and out are correct.
Willingness to learn – the job is varied and our product range is v extensive. Product knowledge will grow with time – but will need a positive attitude towards learning it.
Long-term attitude – we need someone who would see this role as a long-term opportunity.
