Job Title:         Laboratory Technician                                        Job Reference: 369
Location:        Boston
Job Type:        37.5 hrs a week, hours: 8:30 – 17:00,
Salary:                 Salary £19,000 - £23,000 depending on skills and experience

To carry out preparation, testing and reporting on samples of materials, fibres and feather, by agreed methodology, as directed by the Quality/Laboratory Manager. This will be with the use of basic and advanced instrumentation techniques.
Key Duties:
•Perform sample analysis to an acceptable standard and in accordance with established procedures
•Maintain accurate records of testing and sample calculations
•Produce reports for samples tested and input of sample results into the Labs IT system
•Participate in Laboratory Proficiency Schemes
•Maintain the laboratory to an acceptable level of housekeeping
•Ensure that all equipment within the Laboratory is maintained to an acceptable operating standard and all calibrations are maintained
•Assist with audits and ensuring compliance at all times with laboratory systems, rules and procedures, including external accreditation (ISO 9001) and ensure that appropriate quality assurance controls are carried out on a regular basis within the laboratory
· Assist the Quality/Laboratory Manager with preparation for ISO 17025 accreditation
•Ensure that relevant COSHH assessments are consulted for the substances being used
•Ability to test a large number of samples, obtain the correct results and issue factual reports
•Ability to work individually, or as part of a team, and to provide assistance to others when required.

· Applicants should be qualified to a minimum of A Level Science, or equivalent.
· Good IT skills (knowledge of Excel is a must)
· At least 1 year’s experience  of working in a laboratory
· Ideally have experience working in an R&D environment
